Newspaper Fractions?

More Fractions Fun

We started with a whole piece of newspaper and folded it in half lots of times.

We discovered: When we half a fraction the denominator doubles. When we half a fraction the denominator gets bigger. This means the the larger the denominator the smaller the fraction.

 Our fractions order was this: 1 - 1/2 - 1/4 - 1/8 - 1/16 - 1/32 - 1/64 - 1/128

Congratulations Danny

FAIRYTALE ACTORS IN ACTION

Last Friday when the storm hit Room 19 didn't have half of our class and were unable to perform our Fairytale Play. This Friday however we were able to  perform it for the whole school.

Sock Puppet Scripts

Room 19 had a fabulously creative time writing a 30 second script that they presented together on the IPads app called "Sock Puppets".

Each group was given 3 items that they had to include in their very creative stories. Their learning intention was to "Entertain their audience".

Congratulations on a successfully entertaining project. Well done.

Kiwiana Day Wednesday 10th April

REDWOOD SCHOOL

Kereru Syndicate

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

As you are probably already aware, our Syndicate’s latest Topic study is ‘Kiwiana’.  We have been learning about what makes our culture and country unique.  In the spirit of ‘Kiwi Ingenuity’ and also taking inspiration from New Zealand’s iconic A & P shows, we are going to have a ‘Kiwiana Day’ in Week 10, on Wednesday 10th April.

In class on this day the children will be asked to take part in two A & P related competitions.  They will be asked to create a ‘Sand Saucer Garden’ and a ‘Vege/fruit Person’.  Your child will need to bring the following things to school to make these creations:

Sand Saucer Garden

·      a saucer or plastic meat tray to construct their garden on
·      flowers, leaves, moss, twigs, stones, pebbles
·      small mirror or tinfoil if needed (may be used to create a water effect)
·      decorations/ornaments if needed (to add interest or create a garden theme)

Vege/Fruit Person

·      a selection of fruit and/or vegetables (these may be cut into shapes at home before being brought to school)
·      a small twig or stick for doing any carving (NOT knives please)
·      toothpicks
·      little stones (for eyes etc)
·      AND any other ‘bits and bobs’ that will help you make your creation

To continue our ‘Kiwiana’ theme on, we are going to have a typical Kiwi Barbeque for lunch. Your child will be given sausages and bread, with of course Watties tomato sauce on top!  We also intend making a ‘Kiwi Coin Trail’ and would appreciate it if every child brought a gold coin donation/koha, to place on this trail – this money will be used to help cover the cost of the BBQ lunch.  Students will need to bring more food from home to supplement their lunch.

We will also be having a ‘Kiwiana – Top Town’ sports event and rotation in the afternoon.  Your child needs to come to school dressed suitably for these festivities.

Thank you for your continued help and support.

Well done true Kiwi kids.

OUR PORTRAITS

Portraits 2013 from Ginnygordon

Room 19 worked really hard on their portraits.  First they drew themselves without any instructions then they practised lots of different ways of drawing facial features.  They then drew a more realistic idea of what they look like.

Well done team, Mrs Gordon is very proud of your efforts.
